Questions

Where does the storm data come from?

National Weather Service alerts (api.weather.gov), NWS Local Storm Reports, NOAA Storm Prediction Center storm reports, and FEMA OpenFEMA disaster declarations and flood insurance claims. All are free federal feeds published for automated access. We refresh weather data hourly and FEMA data every 6 hours.

What is the roof-permit spike?

For each ZIP code we cover, we count roof permits issued after a storm and compare them with the average daily rate in the 90 days before it. A ratio above 1 means more roof permits than usual. Permits usually lag storm damage by 2 to 8 weeks.

Which areas have roof permits?

The City of Orlando, Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami, the Florida jurisdictions that publish full, fresh permit feeds. Storm reports, alerts and FEMA declarations cover all of Florida.

Do you list homeowners?

No. We publish ZIP-level counts and licensed contractor records only. There are no homeowner names, phone numbers or contact lists, and FEMA data is shown as ZIP or county totals.

Is this a damage or date-of-loss report?

No. These are raw government reports, not a forensic weather opinion, an insurance determination or a consumer report. Verify with the issuing agency before relying on them.

Is it free?

Yes. The pages, the REST endpoint /api/v1/storm-history and the MCP tool storm_history are free during early access, limited to 60 requests per minute. A paid alert feed is planned only if enough people join the waitlist.
